‘Beware of Flood Scams’ says O.P.P.

The O.P.P. wants people to do their research before donating to a cause like local flooding.

Although there have been no reports of it in the area, Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. is raising awareness about scammers using local flooding as a ruse to take your money.

Under the circumstances, the O.P.P. is suggesting that anyone looking to donate to those affected by the flooding do their research before giving. According to the local detachment, the municipalities are encouraging individuals, businesses and organizations to contact the food bank or a local community organization before giving material or money donations.

The O.P.P. says if you think that you or someone you know might’ve been the victim of fraud, call  at 1-888-310-1122 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or report online at www.antifraudcentre.ca
