New policies approved to protect drinking water

Some new policies coming into effect in January will mean safer drinking water in Haliburton County. Source Protection Plans were approved by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change that will cover the region stretching from Algonquin Park to Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte. It will include policies to manage and prevent risks to municipal drinking water. Some of the approaches include education and outreach, developing risk management plans, preventing future high-risk activities, land use planning and monitoring. For more information on the Source Protection Plans, go to the Trent and Ganaraska Source Protection website.
