TLDSB celebrating 14th annual special Olympics

LINDSAY, ON- The school board is celebrating after the successful running of the Special Olympics.

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board ran the 14th annual Special Olympics last week in Lindsay, and this week the board is commending the efforts of the athletes that competed.

On May 29th at the IE Weldon Secondary School, students from all over the board gathered to compete in a variety of events.

The students that were in the competition are all enrolled in the Practical Academics and Life Skills Program.

According to the board, this was not just a friendly competition but also a chance for the the elementary students to meet and interact with the staff and volunteers that work at the secondary schools.

In terms of the actual event, the athletes competed in 50-metre long jump, javelin, vertical jump, 4×100 relay, a mascot race, and a wheelchair obstacle course.

The board says that the event wrapped up with students and staff from the host school gathering around the track cheering on the competitors as the made their final lap.
