Haliburton County fire departments warn about phone scam

MINDEN, ON- Residents of the Township of Minden Hills shouldn’t pay attention to a new phone scam.

According to a notice from the township government, an organization claiming to represent the local fire departments have been calling and asking for money over the phone.

“Be advised, the Fire Departments of Haliburton County and the Firefighters Associations DO NOT use a telemarketing service to seek donations over the phone,” read an announcement from the township today.

“We remind residents to always be vigilant, and never give out personal information or money over the phone.”

Anyone who receives an unsolicited phone call from individuals representing the Haliburton fire departments can report the call to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Fraud Hotline at 1 (888) 495-8501.
