Midnight Madness to feature the first-ever watermelon eating contest

HALIBURTON, ON – An annual affair is returning with a new event.

Tomorrow night, all of the shops along Halliburton’s downtown core will be open for Midnight Madness which happens yearly, but new this year is a watermelon eating contest.

According to Business Improvement Association member Dave Zilstra, the friendly competition is scheduled for 8:00 pm in front of Capturing Eden and Foodland.

Although Midnight Madness is a family-friendly affair, Zilstra says that anyone entering the competition needs to be 18 or older, for safety reasons.

Depending on the number of competitors to enter, there will be either one heat with winner takes all or multiple heats with winners advancing.

In terms of how the contest will be scored, Zilstra says someone will be timing it and whoever finishes most of their melon will win or advance.

Regardless of how many competitors in the eating contest, the winner of it all gets to take home a trophy crafted specifically for the inaugural running.

93.5 Moose FM’s Afternoon Reporter Phil McCabe will be acting as the emcee.
