Algonquin public wolf howl possible this week

ALGONQUIN PARK, ON- If you’re lucky, you could talk to a wolf pack this week.

Algonquin Park has announced tentative dates for three public wolf howls in the park, with the first taking place tomorrow evening. The pair after tomorrow night are set for August 22nd and August 29th.

The event runs from 8:00p.m. to 11:00p.m. at the Outdoor Theatre along Highway 60, south of the road marker for km 35.4.

Anyone wanting to participate is advised to arrive early, with a full tank of gas and warm clothing. The event will last three hours in total.

A slide show will be given on wolf ecology, and then participants will travel by car to a place where wild wolves can possibly answer the imitations given by the naturalist staff.

The event is only held if weather and accessible wolves permit. No dogs are allowed.

A final decision on whether or not the event will be held will be made tomorrow morning, based on scouting by the naturalist staff. If the howl is not held, alternate wolf programming will be offered instead.
