ROSSEAU, ON – Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary has a bunch of new residents and it is looking for help from the public to better look after them.
In a Facebook Post the centre, located near Rosseau, revealed it had been approached to become a permanent home for twenty animals that were part of a roadside zoo.
“These animals include a pack of wolves, four adult black bears, foxes, bobcats, two raccoons and two opossums,” reads the post. “These animals are all non-releasable due to their captive history, habituation to humans, etc.”
The centre is looking to build large, natural enclosures on top of looking after their emotional and physical well-being.
“We are in need of donations of fruits (berries, watermelon, apples) and vegetables (corn, carrots), eggs, and bulk bags of unsalted peanuts in the shell,” the centre outlined. “Donations can be accepted any time at the sanctuary or at drop-off locations in Parry Sound and Huntsville.”

The busy sanctuary already looks after dozens of orphaned animals each spring and attempts to re-release them into the wild once they are ready. But providing a permanent home to this many animals is another level of commitment for the volunteer-run organization.
