COP charged with DUI in Wasauksing 

WASAUKSING FIRST NATION, ON – An off duty police officer was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when he was involved in a collision over the weekend.

West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced the arrest through a press release Tuesday.

According to officers, they were asked to assist the Anishinabek Police Service in a crash investigation on Deemeemguk Road, Wasauksing First Nation. The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, October 6.

Police said constable Mark Leitch of Wainfleet, Ontario is now charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and driving with a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams.

The release added that Leitch is an 18-year member with the OPP. He is scheduled to appear in a Parry Sound court on October 31st.
