Minden students move on in Royal Canadian Legion competition

The annual Remembrance Poster and Literary Competition for the Royal Canadian Legion is moving on to regional judging, and seven students from Minden are in it. Jan McGowan, from the Minden Legion says 48 entries submitted from Archie Stouffer, and they’re sending the finalists on to compete against 12 other branches. They stretch from Haliburton to Brechin, Sunderland and Omemee. Seven students, eight entries in total, are advancing.

Essay competition: Olivia Johnson and Liam McAlister.

Poem competition: Liam McAlister

Black & White Poster competition: Jaiden Mueller, Hannah Gartshore, and Logan Roylance.

Colour Poster competition: Baylie Stover and Grace Hudson

McGowan says in one of the students’ entries, they wrote “They will always be here, in our thoughts, in our homes, In Flanders Fields and mostly in our hearts.”

She says the legion is working with the school and is planning a presentation of the awards in the near future.
