Shoreline protection bylaw packs County of Haliburton chambers

It was standing room only at County council Wednesday.

Paul McInnes from the Coalition of Haliburton Property Owners Association made a presentation with an impassioned plea to county council to move ahead with a shoreline protection bylaw before it’s too late.

Glenn Evans from the Haliburton County Home Builders Association also spoke and agreed the “health of our waterbodies is of the upmost importance to everyone”. But the builders association had some concerns the proposed shoreline bylaw is “a little far reaching”, fearing “some may choose not to build in the county if changes cannot be made to the shoreline”, and that “would have a negative impact on the economy”.

County agreed the draft bylaw is a good first draft and will move ahead with public consultation both online and in a series of public meetings.
