SIRCH’s Repair Cafe will be held in Minden this Saturday

Diverting stuff from our landfills is just one great thing about the Repair Cafe.

It’s a chance to get your electronics, computers, ceramics, clothing and furniture fixed, while enjoying a coffee and a doughnut.

The first event of it’s kind was held in the Netherlands in 2009 and the ‘green initiative” has expanded across the world. Ten years later Haliburton County might be the first rural community to hold a Repair Cafe.

Initiated by SIRCH, with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the first was held in Haliburton at the High School, and was a great success.

SIRCH Coodinator Chris Varga said another program benefit is ‘when you bring completely different people, who have totally different attitudes or ideas, together in a common cause, it’s amazing what happens, suddenly people see the similarities instead of the differences in their neighbours’.

SIRCH would like to hear from you before the next event,  so they can connect you with the right repair volunteer. It’s happening this Saturday, March 7 from 10 until 2, at Archie Stouffer Elementary School in Minden.
