Lots of applause for the new Minden Hills council

The Minden Hills council chambers were full last night to see the new council sworn in. At the inaugural meeting, emcee Peter Oyler reminded council that the people who voted for them wanted individuals who think for themselves and members who care about regaining what was lost and moving forward. Five new members are sitting on council, including Reeve Brent Devolin. In his speech, he said the decisions on a new fire hall, hiring new staff members, and upgrades to the community centre will be a part of the next four years. He ended his speech echoing the promise he made to staff that in the next four years, “we’re going to have fun.” The biggest applause came from the audience when Deputy-Reeve Cheryl Murdoch stood up to say she’s a very happy councilor.

The new council also passed their first resolutions to accept the Reeve’s address and appoint the chairs of each portfolio.
