The Township of Minden Hills is telling residents in areas that are susceptible to flooding, to monitor developing conditions and take the necessary precautions.
There are steps that can be taken to protect your property.
The township recommends you install backflow valves or standpipes to prevent sewage backup, and make sure your sump pump is working properly. They also say to elevate your basement appliances on concrete blocks, don’t store any irreplaceable family items and important documents in the basement, and build an emergency survival kit to keep you self sufficient for 72 hours.
High water levels and swift currents can create unstable conditions, so the public is reminded to use caution around area lakes, rivers, creeks and other water sources.
