Haliburton Highlands Health Services have expanded to react to the COVID crisis.
As part of the efforts to protect the health and safety of patients, residents, staff and community members in Haliburton County, they have expanded acute care capacity and have created seperate facilities for COVID needs.
The acute care facility in Haliburton has been expanded from 15 to 21 beds, and a new 9 bed acute care unit has been created in Minden for non-COVID related admissions.
In an effort to keep COVID and non-COVID patients separated, HHHS encourages residents who have respiratory symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, difficulty breathing and fever, to go to Haliburton emergency, and those with no respiratory symptoms who need to visit emergency, are asked to go to Minden hospital.
You won’t be turned away from either ER, but you may be redirected depending on your needs and COVID considerations.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms and are not in distress, the first step is to complete the self-assessment at Ontario.ca/coronavirus.
