Algonquin Highlands has declared a state of emergency in response to a letter from the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing related to staff redeployments.
Algonquin Highlands Mayor Carol Moffat says this action allows municipalities to move staff to different departments “if and when staffing shortages occur”.
Mayor Moffatt says “municipal work is continuing although it’s slower than usual, not only because of staff working from home, but also because staff who are in the office are experiencing slower than usual workflows due to enhanced protocols for distancing, Personal Protective Equipment, hygiene, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment”.
She says “the upcoming seasonal work and projects will put further pressure on staff” and Algonquin Highlands wants to “remain as responsive and flexible as possible”.
Friday’s formal announcement doesn’t change the structure or operation of the Emergency Operations Group, who meet twice a week.
