Bell is rolling out rural internet sooner, in response to COVID-19.
Approximately 137.000 more homes will have Wireless Home Internet service by the end of this month.
President and CEO Mirko Bibic said internet usage has grown by 40% in the last month, which pointed out the value of service to customers in rural communities.
The accelerated buildout will bring new or enhanced broadband access to approximately 180 communities in Québec and Ontario, including agricultural regions, smaller towns and other rural locations.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Navdeep Bains says they “know that high-speed Internet access is no longer a luxury. It is a necessity for all Canadians. He goes on to say “our government is working hard, with the private sector, provinces, communities and Indigenous organizations, to make sure that rural Canadians have access to high speed Internet, no matter where they live.”
