The latest numbers show that 10.31 million Canadians have applied for the Canadian Emergency Recovery Benefit.
MP Jamie Schmale says” it shows the affect the lockdown is having on Canadian businesses and Canadians themselves, to apply for this program. He says it’s pretty remarkable with the population of Canada, how many have applied”.
MP Schmale says the Parliamentary Budget officer “is now predicting that the federal deficit will be 252 billion dollars for 2021”.
“It’s almost doubling what the federal government spends in a normal year. It’s all basically printed money and it’s showing a bit of a slow down in Canada’s GDP”.
He says “that’s why the conversations need to turn to reopening our economy in a slow smart way, while still protecting our most vulnerable”.
