If you want to receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit this month, you’ll have to reapply.
MP Jamie Schmale says the government of Canada wants to ensure you still qualify for the benefit.
MP Schmale says “It’s a way for the government to get a commitment from the individual that they are no longer at work or unable to seek work or might have a sick family member from COVID-19 that they have to take care of”.
“It’s a bit of accountability on behalf of the government, to the individuals. We all know that the this program was designed to get the money out fast, mostly on the honour system”. He says “this is some accountability to the program”.
To qualify you must be at least 15 years old, and unable to work because of the pandemic. You must have earned at least $5,000 last year and now expect to make less than $1,000 a month while collecting the payments.
