This week is Mental Health Week.
Point in Time Executive Director Marg Cox says “if there ever was a time, this is the time, to pay attention to our mental health”. Cox says “we know about half of Ontario children and youth are at risk of mental health and addiction issues, and that COVID has really stepped it up for people in terms of their anxiety and family stress”.
She says in March the provincial government was poised to announce increased supports for children and youth mental health services, as well as adult mental health services and Point in Time really wants the province to release those supports now.
Executive Director Cox says “our phones are busy and they could really use the additional resources to meet the increased demand at this time. She says 45% of Ontarians report that their mental health has deteriorated since the COVID outbreak began. Cox says “that’s really not a surprising statistic”. “Of the 11 million Canadians that will experience an increase level of stress”, “2 million Canadians will show signs of traumatic stress”.
Marg Cox says “no question is too small, don’t let it build up. The sooner you follow up, the sooner you get help, the sooner you’ll get support, which means the less support you will need in the long run and the sooner things will start turning around”.
