Offices and beaches opening in Highlands East

Municipal offices and beaches are opening in Highlands East.

The township’s Emergency Operation Committee met again to discuss opening up the community in light of the Health Unit District being allowed to move into Stage 2 of the provincial reopening.

Starting Monday June 22, the Municipal Office in Wilberforce and the Building Department Office in Gooderham will be open. The offices will be open by appointment only in order to ensure physical distancing requirements are met.

Appropriate signage and health and safety measures will be in place at each of these locations. Residents will notice there have been physical changes to the layout of the municipal offices.

Additional safety precautions are now in place such as plexi glass barriers to ensure the health and safety of all customers and staff.

For further information on how to make an appointment and what safety practices will be required for your visit, please visit the municipal website at www.highlandseast.ca

Municipal beaches will open today (Friday) as long as the municipality has all of the necessary safety protocols in place, such as signage and portable privies.

Also, on June 12th, the Ontario government announced their intentions to end the temporary suspension of the Planning Act timelines as of June 22nd, 2020.

The government understands that the safety of our constituents remains a priority and there are certain provincial restrictions in place regarding public gatherings.

The Province encourages municipalities to continue with electronic and virtual channels, as appropriate, to engage and provide the public with an opportunity to make representations on planning matters, following the advice of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
