County in line with the province’s new off-road vehicle regulations

Haliburton County council unanimously agreed to go with the Province’s new all-terrain vehicle regulations.

Effective in July, the province expanded the type of off-road vehicles permitted on-road. The change includes allowing Extreme Terrain Vehicles as well as Off-Road motorcycles, on the shoulder of public roads where permitted. Extreme Terrain Vehicles have 6 or 8 wheels all in contact with the ground.

Currently the County permits Single Rider, Two-up, Sided by Side and Utility Terrain ATVs.

Algonquin Highlands have already approved incorporating the provincial changes into their by-law and Minden Hills Mayor, Brent Devolin says his municipality will be doing the same.

County council agreed the regulation changes will be easier to enforce and follow, if all of the municipalities in the County do the same.
