As another season of snowmobiling kicks off in Haliburton County, OPP tips are important to keep in mind. Three of the six motorized snow vehicle deaths reported last year happened on lakes so the OPP is sending out the message that no ice is safe ice. Drivers can check ice safety tips on the MNR website. Last year’s report also showed that alcohol was a factor in 17 per cent of collisions on the trails. OPP are reminding people that they will be on the trails throughout the season for speed enforcement and RIDE checks.
