Highlands East council passes Spills Response Plan

Highlands East council has passed a Spills Response Plan for the municipality. Council discussed the plan which was put together by a consulting firm based out of Peterborough. The CAO and the Environmental supervisor agreed to be the contact person if a spill is reported.

At yesterday’s meeting, councilor Joan Barton asked for the plan to include a follow up with the public. Council agreed to have the plan state that contact will be made with the public following an assessment and cleanup of a spill. The plan outlines that in the event of a spill, the CAO or Environmental Supervisor will contact the Ministry of the Environment for an assessment.Council passed the plan which will take effect right away.
