Health Unit confirms first case of a variant of concern in Haliburton

No new COVID-19 cases were reported in Haliburton today after a single-day record of five new COVID 19 cases were reported Monday.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) continues to report seven active cases of the virus locally.

According to HKPR’s latest update, one of the positive cases previously reported in Haliburton tested positive for the N501Y mutation that is found in some variants of concern. The Health Unit reports five cases of the mutation were found in Kawartha Lakes and 26 in Northumberland.

A total of 58 cases of the virus have been reported in Haliburton since the pandemic began.
