City of Kawartha Lakes officers recently investigated a situation where a person received a text claiming to be from their bank. A form was attached which the person filled out with personal information including their SIN number. OPP report that no funds were lost because quick action was taken to close the account. Given the occurrence, OPP are reminding people not to share personal information with anyone unless it’s face to face. If you do receive a request over the phone or by email, do not share information unless you can confirm that they represent the company they claim to be with.
