Province looking for input on naming Minden-located island “Lee Blair Island”

The Ontario Geographic Names Board wants the public’s input on officially naming an island in Minden Hills “Lee Blair Island”.

The board says it received a name proposal to name the island which is located on Soyers Lake.

According to the proposal, the namesake is for a local who is well known for their contribution to the development of the area and has been the go-to locally used name for 20 years.

A questionnaire has been made for local residents to find out if there is a different name in widespread use and if there is support for the proposed name.

The deadline to submit the questionnaire is March 31, at which point the results will be presented to the Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry to officially adopt a proposed name.

Once adopted, the name would appear on government maps and publications.
