Nominations close for municipal elections

Nominations have closed for this year’s municipal elections.

Friday at 2:00 p.m. was the deadline for anyone considering a run at public office.

In Haliburton County, Minden Hills mayor Brent Devolin is not seeking a third term, leaving councillor Bob Carter to run uncontested.

In Algonquin Highlands, deputy mayor Liz Danielsen runs for head of the council table against federal government employee Mike Lang., and in Highlands East, incumbent mayor Dave Burton runs against local resident Cheryl Ellis.

Murray Fearrey, Dysart et al’s former longtime mayor, is back on the ballot uncontested, with incumbent Andrea Roberts choosing not to run. 

Minden Hills also has 9 candidates running for town council, 13 in Dysart et al, Algonquin Highlands six, and Highlands East has five. County Council will consist of the elected mayor and deputy mayor of each municipality.

Elections are also underway for trustees at the area’s two school boards.

Municipal elections are set for October 24th.
