Election results certified for Haliburton County’s municipalities

Results have been certified across Haliburton County after Monday’s municipal election.

Minden Hills has acclaimed Bob Carter as mayor, and Lisa Schell as deputy mayor. Tammy McKelvey was elected as councillor at large, Ivan Ingram and Shirley Johannessen elected for Ward 1, and Pam Sayne for Ward 2, with Bob Sisson acclaimed for Ward 3.

Algonquin Highlands has elected Liz Danielsen as mayor with 53.1 per cent of the vote, beating Mike Lang with 46.9 per cent. Danielsen will lead another all-female council, with Sabrina Richards and Lisa Barry elected to represent Ward 2, while Julia Shortreed and Jennifer Dailloux are respectively acclaimed for Wards 1 and 3.

In Highlands East, Dave Burton has defeated Cheryl Ellis in the mayoral race, receiving 58.2 per cent of the vote to Ellis’ 41.8 per cent. Wards 1, 3, and 4 have acclaimed Cam McKenzie, Cec Ryall, and Ruth Strong, while Angela Lewis was elected to represent Ward 2.

Murray Fearrey and Walt McKechnie have been acclaimed as mayor and deputy mayor of Dysart et al. Meanwhile, Pat Casey was elected councillor for Ward 1, Nancy Wood-Roberts for Ward 2, and Carm Sawyer for Ward 4. Tammy Donaldson and Barry Boice are acclaimed for Wards 3 and 5.

Each municipality will be represented at County Council by its mayor and deputy mayor. With no one acclaimed to the role, Algonquin Highlands and Highlands East will each appoint a councillor to serve as deputy mayor, after council is sworn in on Nov. 15.
