Winter Wellness Tips

You’ve probably already noticed that the days are getting shorter and the nights are a little bit longer.  Dearbla Lynch is a Health Promoter with the Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit and she has some helpful tips to keep your mental health in tip top shape this winter.  Lynch says its important to take this time and reflect  on what we need to take care of ourselves.   Little things that can help include spending more time outdoors or indoors if there is an abundance of natural light.  Getting creative.  Maybe try drawing, writing or wood working.  This can really help us to make sense of our day to day experiences.  Staying connected to family and friends, joining a group online or in your community.

Lynch also reminds you to be nice to yourself.  Life throws us a lot of curveballs. Pay attention to your moods and if you do need help ask a friend, a family member or a health care provider.  If you or a loved one is in crisis be sure to call Four County Crisis at 1-866-995-9933.
