Health unit reinstates students immunization policy

Local kids will once again need their regular vaccinations before heading back to school.

Children aged four to 17 will need to be up to date on immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, chickenpox, and meningococcal disease.

Parents will need to provide the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) with proof of immunization or a valid exemption.

The health unit put enforcement of those vaccinations on hold in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials say they’ll send first notices to parents and guardians in January 2023, and second notices in March, if children do not have vaccinations on record.

To view the immunization schedule or submit a vaccination record, visit Immunization Connect Ontario’s website. You can also email the health unit at [email protected], call 1-866-888-4577 ext.1507 or fax 905-885-5352.
