COVID-19 outbreak over at Haliburton hospital

A seven-day COVID-19 outbreak in the in-patient department of the Haliburton hospital is over.

According to hospital officials, there were five patient cases and three staff cases during the outbreak.

Admissions have resumed and “enhanced cleaning” remains in place.

While the outbreak is over, hospital officials say patients currently in isolation will stay until March 29. The next day regular visiting guidelines of two visitors at a time will resume, which includes screening of all visitors for symptoms of the virus.

Staff will continue to follow infection prevention and control measures in the previously infected department. That includes wearing personal protective equipment when with the isolated patients, mandatory masking in all patient care areas, mandatory vaccination, and screening for symptoms of COVID-19 before going into the in-patient department.
