Larry Blanchard’s decision to pay the extra dollar to play one of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation ENCORE games netted him $100,000.
“When my wallet gets too thick with tickets, I head to the store and scan them all at once,” says Blanchard. “When I scanned this one and saw $100,000, I thought it was a mistake. I was confused because none of the numbers matched – then I realized I won on ENCORE.”
Blanchard says he’s been playing the lottery for close to two decades.
When his wife found out, Blanchard says she initially didn’t know it was him that won. He explains she only knew someone in Haliburton won. “Then I said, ‘Guess what? I’m the one who won,’ says Blanchard. “She was so happy.”
With his winnings, Blanchard says he plans to buy parts for his tractor and take his wife on a trip to Halifax.
“It feels absolutely amazing,” he says. It gives me a sense of comfort.”
