The backlash from the Minden community over the closure of its emergency department continues to grow.
It follows the announcement by Haliburton Highlands Health Services last Thursday that the Minden emergency department will be closed effective Friday, June 1st, with all staff to be transferred to the emergency department in Haliburton.
An online petition called “Help Save the Minden Hills Emergency Department” had more than 4,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning.
A paper petition is also being circulated around the region asking that the closure be delayed at least one year to allow for further stakeholder consultations.
