County Council “extremely concerned and dissatisfied” with Minden ER closure

Haliburton County Council says it’s “extremely concerned and dissatisfied” with the plans to close Minden’s emergency department on June 1.

This, after Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) CEO Carolyn Plummer and Board Chair David O’Brien made a delegation to council Thursday afternoon.

Council says it is disappointed with the lack of communication from HHHS in the leadup to the decision and will ask the agency to present its implementation plan in May.

Officials also pledged to petition higher levels of government to provide more funding to HHHS, to ease pressures on the organization, as well as review how EMS can help. The agency has also agreed to involve council in its strategic plan and capital master plan later this year.
