HHHS officials share Minden Emergency Department consolidation details

Haliburton Highlands Health Services officials attended Haliburton County Council this morning, sharing consolidation plan details for the Minden Emergency Department.

Carolyn Plummer, CEO & President and David O’Brien, Chair of the Board of Directors, reiterated at the beginning of the meeting that without the consolidation, the community would’ve faced multiple closures of both emergency departments due to staff and physician shortages.

The plan, which is available here, shares in detail the work that will be getting underway.

That includes converting rooms at the Haliburton site for additional beds, a larger waiting room, transporting equipment and inventory, scheduling employees, creating additional parking, signage, and more.

Officials say as of June 1, no further patients will be registered at the Minden Emergency Department, and any remaining patients in the department will be seen by a physician, with those requiring care transported to Haliburton via EMS.
