Effective at midnight on May 17, a total fire ban will be in place within the township of Algonquin Highlands and throughout Haliburton County.
Officials say that means no outdoor burning at any time of day, with active daytime burning permits being suspended until further notice.
Bonfires, fireworks and the lighting of charcoal barbecues are also prohibited and violations will result in fines.
Officials say the ban, implemented through a joint decision of the County’s four Chief Fire Officials, will be in effect for a week minimum.
