Cottagers’ association social raising money for food bank

A local cottagers’ association is raising money for the Kinmount Food Bank.

Carol Ing, Treasurer of the Crystal Lake Cottagers Association, says the group’s Name That Tune social at Kinmount’s Galway Hall will donate all net proceeds to the not-for-profit.

Ing says they’re looking for around 150 people to compete in teams of 10, starting at 8:00 p.m. on June 24.

“Sort of like the TV show, it’ll be a couple of lyrics, or a bit of a tune, and you have to name the song,” says Ing. “There’ll be a winning team and a prize for that. There’s popcorn and chips, nothing fancy, and there’ll be a dance after.”

Ing adds there’ll also be a 50/50 draw, with someone walking away with half the money from the raffle pool.

According to Ing, the association tries to donate at least $500 every year to the food bank. Depending on how successful this year’s event is, she says they may bring it back as a dedicated fundraiser.

“That’s the closest town to us, so we don’t get too many arguments from anybody as to ‘why Kinmount versus another’,” says Ing. “I think everybody just knows that the need for the food bank is so large right now.”

Ing says tickets are $20 at the door, but $15 if you buy in advance via the association’s website.
