Moose FM hospital radiothon raising money for HHHSF

For the 17th year in a row, 93.5 Moose FM is raising money for our local hospital.

We’ll be live from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 17 and 18 in support of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation (HHHSF).

Melanie Klodt-Wong, Foundation Executive Director, says the funds will go towards the agency’s Community Support Services. She says it helps transport seniors and people with disabilities to necessary appointments and services, such as for dialysis and day surgeries. “Sometimes people don’t drive anymore, or they just don’t have the support or the funds to be able to have a vehicle. So, the services provided are really to help people with their health and well being.”

According to Klodt-Wong, the money will help keep their two wheelchair-accessible transport vans, as well as their Meals on Wheels cargo van on the road. She notes demand for those services is 30 per cent higher than last year.

Donations permitting, she says they also hope to buy a seven-passenger vehicle for the fleet, to transport more people who do not need wheelchair access.

“If we can get another van on the road, if we can get some funds to upgrade or start to look at replacing the wheelchair vehicles that are in service now,” says Klodt-Wong. “All of that would be amazing and helpful. Any support we can receive from the community we are grateful for. Whatever you can give, we would very much appreciate.”

Moose FM’s Cottage Country Cluster Manager, Jenny Faulkner, says we are so proud to host this annual event.

“We’re excited to continue supporting our Haliburton hospital with our annual radiothon,” says Faulkner. “Every year, we are just incredibly grateful to have our community partners, volunteers and, most importantly, our listeners come together to get behind such a worthy cause.”

Klodt-Wong says she’s excited to hop on air for what will be her first radiothon, as she started at HHHSF last September. She’ll be joined by HHHS volunteers, staff, and leadership.

“There’s a lot of volunteers and staff involved in the transportation program, and we will have a few of those experts and folks who do that on the air talking about it,” says Klodt-Wong. “I’m excited to have their voices heard and talk about their stories.”

You can donate to the foundation by calling 705-457-1580, or visiting https://www.hhhs.ca/foundation. Residents can also stop by Moose FM’s station at 152 Highland Street in Haliburton Village to support the radiothon.
