17-year-old drowns in Burnt River

A 17-year-old has drowned in Minden’s Burnt River.

Police say around noon on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the river after reports a swimmer had not resurfaced. Officials say CPR was attempted on site, but the Oshawa teenager was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding people to be vigilant of their safety while on the water, adding to wear a floatation device, know your limits, and never swim alone.
