UPDATE: Over 11,000 residents out of power after truck hits hydro pole

UPDATE 1:12 PM: Hydro One says power has now been restored to customers however, crews continue to work at the site. They add an outage will be required later this afternoon in order for crews to install a new 70 ft. pole and make permanent repairs.

Over 11,000 residents in the area are out of power.

That’s according to Tiziana Baccega Rosa, Senior Media Relations Advisor at Hydro One.

She says the outage is due to a large truck hitting a pole.

“It happened near our Minden transmission station, which is why so many customers are affected by this outage,” she says. “The pole carries two main lines that feed the area.”

The estimated time of restoration is 11:45 am, but Baccega Rosa says that may change, adding the best place to get information is the utility’s outage map.

“Otherwise we’re also looking at how we can supply customers through an alternate source of power, and that’s being explored through our control centre.”

She says crews are working to get the power back as quickly as possible.
