The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is sharing information about a recent event in Belleville that caused an alarming increase in drug poisonings.
Last week emergency services in Belleville responded to a total of 23 overdoses, 14 of which occurred between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6.
The health unit is warning that street drugs may be mixed with other substances and that can increase the risk of overdose. They recommend using naloxone in all suspected drug overdoses due to the possibility of opioid contamination or poisoning, as well as calling 911 in the event of an overdose.
