Fire season has started, with new regulations in place this year for Haliburton County.
As of April 1, no open-air fires are allowed between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. within the county.
The Minden Hills Fire Department says the change comes after last year’s wildfire season, with officials calling it “the most destructive ever recorded in Canada.”
They note a brush fire on Saturday spread to 11 acres and burned down a large barn. However, the fire danger rating is currently set at “moderate.”
The department adds if you do have a fire after hours, make sure to use an appropriate fire pit, have a way to put it out on hand, and fully extinguish it before leaving.
