The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has issued an opioid overdose alert.
Officials say it comes after a “notable increase” in suspected opioid drug poisonings in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The alert flags the issue for community partners and first responders and triggers enhanced outreach efforts, as well as distribution of naloxone kits and harm reduction supplies.
The health unit says it is important to be aware of potential contamination to the unregulated drug supply.
Officials urge anyone who sees an overdose to intervene by calling 9-1-1 and giving the person naloxone.
