OPP urging everyone to stay home as freezing rain continues

The OPP is urging you to stay off the roads.

Police say officers had a busy night with increased calls due to the freezing rain that continues to affect the area.

Officials say it has created dangerous conditions on roadways, and resulted in multiple incidents, including injuries from falling trees as many several have fallen due to the weight of the ice.

The OPP says if you encounter downed trees and power lines, don’t call 911 unless it is a life-threatening emergency. Instead, call a utility service.

They add emergency crews are working diligently to address the damage, but public safety remains their highest priority. Authorities are urging everyone to stay off the roads and remain alert for hazardous conditions.

“We strongly urge the public to remain indoors to avoid further risk of injury and to allow emergency responders to handle the most critical situations,” says the OPP.
