The Township of Minden Hills has declared a State of Emergency in response to the severe ice storm that hit the province over the weekend.
Officials say the decision comes in the wake of prolonged freezing rain, which has caused widespread power outages, hazardous road conditions, downed trees and power lines, as well as damage to area infrastructure.
Areas of the township are also experiencing network outages and disruptions. These outages are impacting municipal communications channels.
The S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena is open to the public as an information and warming centre.
Officials say crews are still assessing damage on Township roads and facilities.
Hydro One says it will take several days to restore power to all customers.
Conditions are evolving rapidly, and service statuses may change with little notice. Township staff say they will continue to monitor storm impacts and provide updates on facility status, road conditions, and municipal services through the Township’s website www.mindenhils.ca.
