It looks like Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes will remain blue.
Incumbent Conservative Jamie Schmale has unofficially retained his seat in Parliament.
Schmale collected nearly 57% of votes to edge out the Liberal Party’s Nell Thomas, who garnered 38.5%. NDP candidate Aylea Teel finished third, while the PPCs Michael Penman was fourth.
“I think locally we ran a great campaign,” said Schmale. “We stayed focused on the issues we were hearing at the door, and we continued to press the message that we hear those who are struggling, and we want to make changes to make their lives better.”
Schamle says he is “laser-focused” on trying to find solutions to the affordability crisis and making life more affordable for residents throughout the riding.
