Health Unit sends immunization reminder to parents

Our health unit is sending the reminder to parents to check your child’s immunization records. Even though there haven’t been any local reports of the measles, there have been a few cases confirmed throughout the province. The vaccine is usually given to children in two doses – one just after their first birthday and the second right before they start school. There is no cure for the measles, and it’s most contagious in the four days before and after a rash appears. If a child isn’t immunized and there is an outbreak, they will not be allowed to attend school during that time.

You can contact the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577 to find out if your child has been immunized. You can also visit their website by clicking here, or go to the Public Health Ontario website.
