NewsResident conned in lottery scam loses $6500 SHARE ON: Smith Autumn, contributor, Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 2015OPP are warning residents of a fraud after someone lost 65 hundred dollars in a lottery scam. City of Kawartha Lakes OPP got the report that a resident was contacted by a person claiming to be a lawyer in Toronto. The victim was told there was 1.5 million dollars in lottery winnings in the Philippines waiting to be claimed. The money was sent in order to claim the prize, but then apparently held because taxes weren’t paid. Officers are reminding people that you should never have to pay funds to receive winnings, and you won’t win a lottery you didn’t enter. If you run into a similar situation, err on the side of caution and report it to police.
