County of Haliburton actively monitoring nearby forest fires

Local municipalities within the County of Haliburton are continuing to monitoring four forest fires burning in nearby Counties.

Officials say one fire in the Burnt River area was roughly 27 hectares in size and actively burning as of 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. Officials say crews are making headway, however hot and dry conditions persist, and there is potential for wind to worsen the situation.

Officials say another fire, about two kilometres north of Bluff Lake, is now nearly 13 hectares in size and also not under control.

These fires are identified by the prefix Haliburton representing the Ministry of Natural Resource’s Haliburton Fire Management Area, but are located in Kawartha Lakes and Hastings County. There are currently no active forest fires identified by the M-N-R-F in Haliburton County.

A total fire ban remains in effect for the region.
