Minden council sees divided vote on fees for brush deposit at landfills

This morning’s council meeting saw the first divided vote with the new Minden Hills council, and it was about adding a fee for burning brush at landfills. It would be ten dollars per cubic meter, which is part of the process to have fees in line with the rest of the county, explains Reeve Brent Devolin. Councilors against it believed the fee wasn’t necessary with residents already seeing an increase in taxes this year. They also agreed it would cause people to burn on their own property, which could see an increase in fires. With one councilor absent, the vote was a tie, so the fee was not approved.
